During this very cold and snowy stretch in Chicago, I have been dreaming about warmer locations. Today, I thought I would share with you one of my favorite island homes, which is a dreamy and lush tropical retreat in the Dominican Republic featuring plenty of blue and white, antiques, and beautiful treasures. This winter home is owned by a prominent design couple, interior designer Bunny Williams and her antique-collector and shop-and-showroom-owner husband John Rosselli.
The couple, with the help of an architect, designed this home, which they call “La Colina” (meaning “the hill” in Spanish). The colonial style villa was built during an 18 month period on a scenic hill in Punta Cana. Bunny Williams wrote a lovely book, called A House by the Sea, that details the home and the process of building it.
La Colina is full of furnishings and collections that the couple has owned and loved for years. The style is influenced by the tropical location and is light and airy and designed to be comfortable for frequent entertaining.

The great room is filled with large-scale furnishings and art, simple blue cotton slipcovered furniture, blue and white porcelain, a casual striped cotton rug, interesting textiles, tropical plants, hurricane lamps, books and decorative items:
A collection of shells and coral:
John Rosselli has a passion for blue and white and has been collecting it during his travels for decades. Clearly, he is a man after my own heart! The home has many beautiful displays with his collections:
As a nod to the island location, there are many furnishings made of rattan and bamboo, and wood furnishings that look British Colonial in style:
A cozy sitting room full of games and books (I love the water bird prints above the sofa!):
The bedrooms, in pretty tropical colors with a mix of textiles and furnishings:
A lovely veranda outside the bedrooms:
The pool with its Greek temple-like pool house:
The home is surrounded by open porches with many areas for outdoor entertaining:

How charming is their garage?!
Wouldn’t it be lovely to be a guest at La Colina?
