In large cities, where there is little land for gardens, people often plant window boxes on their small balconies or outside their windows. Here in Chicago, the window boxes start to appear in late spring and early summer, bringing color and beauty to our urban landscape.
European city dwellers seem to be especially skilled at creating gorgeous window boxes, as seen in this building in Paris:

I have read that there are now self-watering window boxes, making it easier to have window boxes in all your windows. What a great invention!
